The Cubs, A Camera and Some Ducks

Abigail's Uncle Carl goes down in the books as one of the most avid, enthusiastic and knowledgeable Cubs' fans in history - no kidding. It didn't take Abigail long to catch onto this fact, and whenever Abigail sees the logo, she shouts, "Chicago Cubs - UNCLE CARL!"

Segue time - donning her Cubs sweatshirt, Abigail preps her camera before going to feed the ducks by Gramma's house. Not only would I describe this camera as "the world's smallest" but also "the world's most inoperable," since it is actually an Easter view-finder. Nevertheless, Abigail once again masters the beautiful childhood art of make-believe.

At the end of Gramma's dead-end lane is a footbridge where a creek runs, the same creek that flows through my mother's backyard and eventually "feeds" (haha) the Chicago River. The dawn of Spring has brought ducks and geese in pairs, so Abigail always going on an adventure to feed whatever stale bread, buns or crackers we have to these really big birds. Here are the ducks...

and the geese...

(The above picture was taken in our next-door-neighbor's yard; they have a little girl a few months younger than Abigail.)

What? You'd like another story? Happy to oblige -
About every other week, Abigail and I walk to the library for story-time, craft-time or just play-and-check-out-books time. It never ceases to amuse either of us on the walk home to sing "...over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go!" How apt!
